This is a VERY FINE, 100% complete and original Civil War issue combination screwdriver and tool for use with the US Model 1860 Spencer Rifle & Carbine. This is the larger, Civil War era tool and not the smaller tool issued later during the Indian War era. The tool is complete and fully functional. The swinging arm moves smoothly, requiring just a little pressure to move it to the necessary position, without requiring any significant force. The tool retains a about 85%+ of its original blued finish, which has faded and dulled somewhat and mixed with a smooth smoky-blue-gray and plum patina. The brilliant, high polish surface of the bluing has mostly flaked away, leaving the dull blue base layer. However, some traces of the brilliant blue are still visible as small bright flecks on the tool. The tool is free of any pitting and shows only some very tiny areas of lightly scattered oxidized surface freckling. The screwdriver blades are still sharp and square and completely usable. The tool remains in about VERY FINE condition. The long body of the tool measures 3.6” from the rounded end with the lanyard hole to the end of the screwdriver, and .5” wide at the widest point. The shorter screwdriver arm measures 2.38” in length and is also .5” wide. The domed rivet that secures the two pieces is .44” in diameter.

Overall, this is an extremely crisp, original example of a combination tool that would be a great addition to the display of your Model 1860 Spencer Rifle or Carbine.

Please note that the images are much larger than the actual tool. This allows you to see the condition and details of the tool’s metal surfaces easily. The overall length of the main body of the tool is 3.6”.
