This is a wonderful condition example of an original US Model 1842 Musket Lock made at the Springfield Arsenal and dated 1855. The lock is in EXCELLENT condition and retains the majority of its original arsenal bright polish. The lock is deeply and crisply marked throughout. The three vertical lines at the tail are deeply stamped, reading

with the usual {Spread-Winged Eagle}/US deeply stamped forward of the hammer. The interior of the lock is marked with an H inspection below the lock bolster above the mainspring and a W is stamped inside the hammer neck. The internal components retain much of their dull blue-black finish. The lock is mechanically excellent and functions very crisply on all positions.

If you need a very high condition US Model 1842 Musket Lock for a project, either restoration or a custom build for living history use or N-SSA competition, this would be a hard lock to improve on.
